In 2004 a college freshman at Edward Winters College was killed outside his dorm. His parents just settled with the college in a wrongful death sui they brought blaming the college for his death. The college will be paying the family $2.75 million and they must award an annual scholarship in the student's name.

The victim

was a freshman when two men approached him and demanded a sports jersey he was wearing, his cell phone and wallet while he stood outside his dorm in 2004, authorities said.

In their lawsuit, the family claimed that the college had inadequate security and misrepresented the safety of the campus.

On the day before he was shot, the victim had written a paper that criticized security at the college campus.
